The best of both worlds

On 14 March 2019, ESADE hosted the event ‘Women in Business’. The event sought to connect current students from the Full-Time MBA (FTMBA) with participants on the monthly format of the Executive MBA (EMBA) who share an interest in creating a more egalitarian workspace.

Judith Puigbò, Associate Director of Admissions for the EMBA, kicked off the event with an aspirational speech about the objective of the get-together, namely, to allow attendees to get to know each other, create spaces for debate, share career opportunities and foster joint initiatives.

She highlighted the importance of connecting talented and committed women (and men) because of the potential synergies that could arise between them, especially by combining the strengths of the two profiles: the energy and fresh ideas of the FTMBA students with the seasoned experience and expertise of the EMBA participants.

Afterwards, Emily Lu (Netherlands), president of the Women in Business Club, presented the student-created organisation, which aims to promote diversity and gender equality in business and leadership roles, as well as the activities they organise.

“Our objectives are to provide a platform for the ESADE community to discuss gender-equality-related topics and to provide better opportunities for the ESADE women’s community to become future leaders and role models for the next generation.”

Later, EMBA participants Neveen Hussein (Bahrain) and Dania Jouni (Lebanon) explained their experience as the winners of the Women Empowerment Programme at ZAIN, a leading telecom company in the Middle East. ZAIN has been sponsoring them to pursue the Executive MBA at ESADE since they won an internal competition held amongst all of its female employees in the Middle East.

The event wrapped up with a cocktail hour, offering the participants an opportunity to network and share ideas in an informal setting. You might think that most of the participants were women, but actually 50% were men! At ESADE we are happy to see men increasingly stepping up and joining women in this cause, in order to achieve the equality we need on both sides. Raising awareness amongst men is crucial, as they too will be future business leaders.

Together we are stronger!

Sincerely,

Admissions Team
